• ACL Tear Prevention For Female Athletes

    In my time playing soccer at Mount St. Mary’s University, I saw three of my teammates tear their ACL as well as four more female athletes from other sports. As female players develop, they are more susceptible to this injury. There are two reasons female athletes, not only soccer players, are more prone to tearing their ACL’s. The next few sentences sum up those reasons found in the article below, but for more information, I encourage you to check out the link! The first reason for ACL tears is the Q angle, which is the angle their femur attaches to their tibia. The second reason is due to the muscular imbalance developed during puberty. Females produce a small amount of testosterone, but during puberty, this amount of testosterone doesn’t keep up with their muscle growth, mostly seen between the quad and the hamstring.  Read more here.
